📘 Module 5 – Scanner Mastery

📚 Lesson 1

Introduction to the Scanner Suite

“A professional trader does not search every chart. A professional trader builds a process that brings the strongest opportunities into view.”

The market contains thousands of stocks, exchange-traded funds, and potential setups.

Trying to examine every chart manually would be exhausting and inefficient.

The L&M Scanner™ Suite was designed to solve that problem.

Rather than randomly searching for trades, the scanners evaluate groups of symbols and help identify opportunities that may deserve closer examination.

A scanner does not make the final trading decision.

It helps the trader decide where to look first.

The Purpose of a Scanner

A scanner is an opportunity-finding tool.

It filters the market using defined conditions and organizes the results into a more manageable watchlist.

This allows traders to spend less time searching and more time evaluating.

The scanner’s job is to answer:

“Which symbols deserve my attention?”

The trading engine then helps answer:

“Does this opportunity meet my rules?”

These are two different responsibilities.

Finding Is Not Confirming

One of the most important principles in Scanner Mastery is understanding that a scanner result is not automatically a trade.

A symbol may appear because it meets several preliminary conditions, but the chart must still be reviewed.

Before entering, traders should evaluate:

  • Market State

  • Entry confirmation

  • VWAP relationship

  • Volume and momentum

  • Overall market direction

  • Risk and reward

  • The appropriate trading engine

The scanner finds the opportunity.

The trader confirms it.

The L&M Scanner™ Suite

The L&M Trading Solutions™ includes scanners designed for different objectives and holding periods.

The Day Trade Scanner™

The Day Trade Scanner™ searches for opportunities intended for the current trading session.

Its focus is short-term price movement, participation, and immediate market conditions.

The Continuation Scanner™

The Continuation Scanner™ identifies stocks that may continue their move into the following trading day.

The typical objective is to enter during the current session and manage or sell into strength or weakness the next day.

The Two-Day Continuation Scanner™

The Two-Day Continuation Scanner™ looks for moves that may have enough strength to continue beyond a single overnight session.

This requires greater patience and careful evaluation of whether the original thesis remains valid.

The Swing Scanner™

The Swing Scanner™ searches for opportunities that may develop over several days, weeks, or longer.

Because the holding period is longer, market structure, trend quality, and risk management become especially important.

The Earnings Probability Scanner™

The Earnings Probability Scanner™ evaluates conditions surrounding upcoming earnings announcements.

It organizes information and estimates the strength of the available setup, but earnings remain unpredictable and may produce sharp price gaps.

This scanner requires added caution and disciplined risk control.

Match the Scanner to the Mission

Every scanner was created for a different purpose.

A day-trade opportunity should not automatically become a swing trade.

A continuation trade should not be held indefinitely simply because the position becomes uncomfortable.

Before using any scanner, know the mission:

  • What type of trade am I seeking?

  • How long do I expect to hold it?

  • What conditions would invalidate the setup?

  • Which engine will help me confirm it?

  • How much risk am I willing to accept?

Professional traders define the mission before entering the position.

The Daily Scanner Workflow

A disciplined scanner process follows a simple sequence:

Choose the appropriate scanner

Review the strongest results

Open the chart

Evaluate the market environment

Confirm the setup with the appropriate engine

Define risk

Execute only when the complete picture aligns

This process prevents traders from treating every scanner result as an automatic signal.

Quality Over Quantity

A scanner may return several symbols.

That does not mean every result should be traded.

Professional traders narrow the list.

They look for the cleanest charts, strongest confirmation, best risk structure, and greatest alignment with the overall market.

The objective is not to trade every result.

The objective is to identify the best available opportunity.

One excellent setup is more valuable than a watchlist filled with mediocre possibilities.

No Trade Is a Valid Result

Sometimes the scanners will not identify a strong opportunity.

That is useful information.

It may indicate:

  • Weak market participation

  • Poor trend quality

  • Conflicting conditions

  • Excessive chop

  • Limited follow-through

A scanner that says NO TRADE is protecting the trader from forcing a weak setup.

Professional traders respect the absence of opportunity.

Lesson Summary

The L&M Scanner Suite™ helps traders search the market efficiently and organize potential opportunities by trading objective.

Each scanner serves a different mission, from day trading and continuation trades to swing opportunities and earnings-related setups.

Scanner results are not automatic entries.

They are the beginning of the evaluation process.

The scanner finds the symbol.

The engine confirms the conditions.

The trader makes the decision.

🎯 Mission Debrief

Before moving on, ask yourself:

✅ Do I understand that a scanner result is not automatically a trade?

✅ Can I identify the purpose of each scanner?

✅ Did I choose the scanner that matches my intended holding period?

✅ Did I review the chart and confirm the setup before entering?

✅ Am I willing to accept NO TRADE when conditions are weak?

Remember:

The scanner narrows the search.

Discipline completes the decision.

🌌 L&M Trading Solutions™ Academy Pro Tip

“Never confuse being shown an opportunity with being given permission to trade it.”

A scanner can bring a chart to your attention.

Only confirmation, risk management, and disciplined judgment can turn that chart into a professional trade.
